I'll never forget today. I was threatened merely for wearing my "Every Child Matters" shirt. It served as a solemn reminder that the struggle against racism towards Indigenous peoples continues. This isn't just an indigenous fight; this affects us all.

I propose we change the red in the Canadian flag to orange. This small but significant adjustment would represent an essential acknowledgment of our Indigenous heritage in Canada. A heritage that is far too often overlooked or even neglected. Indigenous peoples represent 4.9% of Canada's total population, and they contribute significantly to its rich culture, history, and identity (Statistics Canada, 2016).

While some may view this as a small or symbolic gesture, it is a step towards the recognition and respect owed to our Indigenous communities. It won't erase the past but it can be a beacon that guides Canada toward a more inclusive future.
