As a resident of Colchester, CT, USA, I am writing this petition to propose a much-needed addition to our Pickleball courts.  I believe it is time for our community to embrace the growing popularity of pickleball, and convert some of our existing tennis courts into multi-purpose courts or additional courts to the current dedicated courts.

Since the development of the courts, we have witnessed the rise in popularity of pickleball among people of all ages and backgrounds. However, despite its increasing demand and appeal within our community, we currently lack sufficient facilities to accommodate this sport. Picture attached is an example of any given weekday, and the number of players waiting their turn on the courts. 

Pickleball is a fantastic low-impact activity that promotes physical fitness while fostering social connections It combines elements from tennis, badminton, and table tennis and can be enjoyed by individuals at various skill levels. Unfortunately, due to limited access to dedicated pickleball courts in Colchester, many enthusiasts are left without proper spaces to play.

By modifying some of our underutilized or aging tennis courts into multipurpose courts, we can provide an inclusive recreational opportunity for all residents. This will not only cater to the needs of current players, but also encourage new participants who may find traditional sports like tennis more challenging or intimidating.

Relevant Facts:
1) According to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA), there has been a significant increase in pickleball participation across all age groups in recent years.
2) The USAPA (USA Pickleball Association) reports that there are over 3 million active players nationwide.
3) The conversion from tennis court to pickleball court requires minimal investment compared to building entirely new facilities.
4) By repurposing existing infrastructure instead of constructing new ones from scratch, we can save taxpayer money while still meeting the demands of our community.

By modifying select tennis courts into dedicated pickleball facilities within Colchester, we can create a space that caters to the growing interest in this sport. This will not only enhance our community's recreational options but also promote an active and healthy lifestyle for residents of all ages.
