Independence Day, also known as the 4th of July, is viewed with immense pride and is a significant event representing the birth of our nation. Unfortunately, when this day falls midweek, it disrupts continuity at work and doesn't provide optimal time for celebration. It's time to consider a change that benefits hardworking Americans. Transform 4th of July from a fixed date to a flexible one, observed on the first Friday of July. This change would grant Americans a long weekend for commemoration and rest. American workers are amongst the most industrious globally, frequently clocking more hours with less paid time-off (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2018). This alteration wouldn't dilute the significance of Independence Day but give deserving Americans a better opportunity to celebrate and reflect upon their freedom.
