Modify City Ordinance to Permit Night-Time Driving of Golf Carts

Modify City Ordinance to Permit Night-Time Driving of Golf Carts
The Issue
As a resident and avid golf cart user, I often find myself yearning to drive my golf cart during the cooler evening hours, especially during the sweltering summer seasons and short daylight in the fall. Unfortunately, our current city ordinance forbids us from doing so. It's not just about the personal enjoyment, but it's also about creating an eco-friendly, safe, and community-driven environment in our city. Golf carts offer a greener alternative to cars, allowing for reduced carbon emissions, making them more environmentally friendly. They also provide heightened visibility during evening hours, allowing drivers to better see pedestrians and local wildlife.
Local businesses would greatly benefit from extended golf cart usage. Residents could stay later shopping and eating local, spend more, and keep our economy healthy. Not to mention they allow for more residents to be able to park in town, since Golf carts are smaller and two of them can fit into one spot. Golf carts ensure people being able to cross the street safer with more visibility and slower speeds because even at a golfcarts fastest speed, they only reach about 23 mph and weigh so much less than a car or truck making them far less risky in pedestrian accidents compared to the massive 10,000 to 20,000 lb cars on our roads.
The crime rate related to golf carts is significantly lower than that of automobiles. Theft is minimal due to the lack storage, tail gates and Cadillac converters and break-ins, because there are no doors, are non existent on golf carts. And instead of dividing us, golf carts bring us together, encouraging waves and friendly interactions among residents. They are cost-effective devices, saving resident's pocket by using less fuel and having less maintenance.
While golf cart accidents do occur occasionally, they are markedly less than car accidents on an annual basis. They provide a safer alternative to motorcycles, walkers, and bicycles - which are already allowed out at night. All golf carts are equipped with lights and horns, which further ensures safety in darkness.
In light of these points, I urge you to reconsider the present regulations and modify the city ordinance to allow golf cart driving at night. Let's pave the way for a greener, safer, and more united city community. Please sign this petition to support our cause.
