Modernize Drinking Water Stations on Fort Lauderdale’s Beach Promenade

Modernize Drinking Water Stations on Fort Lauderdale’s Beach Promenade
The Issue
I grew up near Fort Lauderdale's stunning beach promenade, a place that has long been a cherished destination for families, tourists, and outdoor enthusiasts. Unfortunately, the current public water drinking fountains leave much to be desired. Not only are they sparse, but they also lack modern conveniences that could greatly enhance the visitor experience. Furthermore, the quality of the water from these fountains are in immense need of revision.
This petition urges the city of Fort Lauderdale to take a significant step towards reducing our environmental impact and improving public health by updating the infrastructure of our public water drinking fountains. By installing new and efficient water bottle refill stations along the City’s beach promenade, we can substantially cut down on the use of single-use plastics. It's estimated that nearly 8 million metric tons of plastic end up in our oceans each year. Offering eco-friendly alternatives directly contributes to decreasing this alarming figure.
Moreover, by modernizing our water facilities, we are offering an incentive for individuals to bring their own refillable water bottles, thus reducing the cost of visiting the beach. Water stations not only promote sustainability but also enhance public health by aiding in the prevention of heat-related illnesses, such as heat strokes, especially during Florida's intensely hot summers.
The health and comfort of Fort Lauderdale’s residents and visitors should be our priority. As we strive for a more environmentally sustainable future, making simple yet impactful changes starts right here in our everyday communities. Adding water refill stations is not just an infrastructural improvement but a statement about Fort Lauderdale’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.
Sign this petition to support a modern and eco-friendly beach promenade that cares for its community and the planet. Let's make Fort Lauderdale not just a beautiful place to visit but a leader in environmental change.
