Modernise The Olympic Medal Count System to Include All Medals

The Issue

As a strong supporter of the Olympics and competitive fairness for athletes worldwide, I find it disheartening to see the disregard of the value of silver and bronze medals in our current Olympic medal table system. The system's focus on gold medal count sets aside the extraordinary achievements of silver and bronze medalists.

I believe this is disrespectful to athletes who have fought hard and trained intensely to secure silver or bronze medals, only for them not to count towards their country's medal table.

A better, more equitable system could be a points-based medal table where gold medals count as 3 points, silver as 2 points, and bronze as 1 point. Not only will this system offer athletes a fairer recognition, it will also improve the accuracy of showcasing a country's overall athletic performance and inspire athletes to strive for any kind of medal, not just the gold ones.

We are asking the International Olympics Committee to review the current medal table system and consider innovating it to reflect the value of all medals won. Every medal is an achievement - irrespective of whether it is gold, silver, or bronze. Every medal is worth celebrating. Do your part and lend support to honour the effort of all athletes competing in the Olympics. Sign the petition today.
