Mobilise for Change: Confront Youth Violence and Reform Judicial Policies

The Issue

Our organisation, Project Lifeline, has directly witnessed the devastating impacts of youth violence and knife crime. We worked closely with Daèjaun Campbell who tragically lost his life to youth violence. Unfortunately we were unable to connect to Kelyan Bokassa which resulted in his tragic circumstances. We have supported both mothers through the hardest time of their lives and also the friends and families of the boys who have been deeply impacted by their deaths.

Despite continuous efforts, we have thus far received little to no governmental support in challenging this grim reality. One of the greatest challenges we face is the systemic issues which the authorities are not willing to accept, restricting our ability to prevent youth violence and support our at-risk youth.

Youth violence, especially knife crime, has tragically become a daily reality in many of our cities. This epidemic has no preference in which of our children it targets. It is reported that in the UK alone, there were over 50,500 knife crime offences in the year ending March 2024 (source: Office for National Statistics, UK). We need to address this urgent crisis.

This is more than statistics on a page; it's about the loss of precious young lives and the pain inflicted on families and communities left behind. The existing judicial laws do not provide adequate consequences or rehabilitation to prevent the recurring cycles of violence. The law needs reformation to contextualise youth violence and implement policies that rather encourage these young people to be redirected towards education, vocational training, and therapeutic interventions.

So, we call on you, the local and national population to get involved in this fight. By signing this petition, you are urging policymakers to recognise the urgent need for change: to prioritise the prevention of youth violence, establish more effective consequences for knife crime, and fundamentally reform our approach to dealing with young offenders through our Horizon Project. Together, we can push for a safer future for our youth. Please sign this petition.
