Mitigate Employment Consequences of POGO Ban in the Philippines

The Issue

I am a former employee of a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO), having spent nearly 3 years working hard and earning a living despite my lack of a college degree or formal education. Like me, there are countless others who have been heavily impacted by the POGO Ban imposed in the Philippines. While we understand the reasons behind the ban, it is the immediate and severe consequences for workers, particularly those with few other employment opportunities, that must be addressed swiftly and carefully.

In 2019, according to statistics released by POGO, about 31,556 Filipino workers were employed in the industry. A significant proportion of these former employees, many of whom lack advanced formal education just like me, are still struggling to find a decent job due to the stringent qualification requirements pervasive in our job market. Government intervention is crucial in providing displaced workers with viable drinking alternatives.

This petition calls on the Filipino government to provide effective re-employment solutions, including retraining programs and job fair initiatives, specifically for displaced POGO workers. Without swift and substantial action, the livelihoods of tens of thousands of citizens are at serious risk.

We all deserve the chance to work and earn a decent living. Regardless of your educational background, every Filipino deserves to be treated with dignity and given a fair shot at success. If you believe in this, we urge you to sign this petition calling for comprehensive employment solutions for all those affected by the POGO ban.
