Misuse of Seahawks IP by "Captain Seahawk" (Wallace Watts) Amid Public Controversy

Misuse of Seahawks IP by "Captain Seahawk" (Wallace Watts) Amid Public Controversy
The Issue
I'm writing to raise an important and escalating concern regarding Wallace Watts, a well-known superfan who promotes himself under the persona “Captain Seahawk.” While it is fully understandable that the Seattle Seahawks, as a professional organization, do not involve themselves in the personal lives of individual fans, this particular case has crossed into territory that directly implicates the team’s brand and reputation.
Mr. Watts is currently in the midst of a highly public and contentious divorce. He has continued to post erratic, inflammatory, and increasingly toxic content under the “Captain Seahawk” name across his social media platforms. This has generated significant controversy and backlash within the fan base. As he does so using a persona that directly incorporates the Seahawks’ name, and often includes team imagery, slogans, and branding, the team’s intellectual property is being associated with behavior that reflects poorly on the organization.
His official social media profiles are as follows:
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/captainseahawknfl (@captainseahawknfl)
X (formerly Twitter): https://x.com/captainseahawk (@captainseahawk)
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CaptainSeaHawk (@CaptainSeaHawk)
YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/WallaceWatts
This is not the first time Mr. Watts has crossed a line while invoking the Seahawks’ identity. The Washington State Gambling Commission previously intervened to shut down fraudulent fundraising activities that were conducted under the guise of charity while using the “Captain Seahawk” name and, by extension, the Seahawks’ brand. This pattern of behavior, involving public misconduct and misrepresentation while leveraging the team's goodwill, has become a serious reputational issue.
Although Mr. Watts has no official affiliation with the Seahawks, the continued use of your protected name and likeness during such public misconduct is creating confusion among fans and casting a negative light on the organization. At a time when the Seahawks' brand and community values are a source of pride and unity, this ongoing situation undermines that effort.
I urge the Seahawks to consider any action within your legal and brand protection rights. A formal request or cease-and-desist to prevent further misuse of the Seahawks’ name would be an appropriate step. Having Mr. Watts remove “Seahawk” from his social media handles and branding would help preserve the integrity of the organization.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I appreciate everything the Seahawks continue to do for the team, the fans, and the broader community.
