Take Action Against Jeffery Raymond Russell For Selling Drugs, Theft, And Possible Perjury

The Issue

Jeffery Raymond Russell (Jeff Russell) is a convicted felon(1), who admitted in public court that he sold his prescription drugs(2), admitted in public court that he committed theft(3), and for possible perjury while under oath(4). Mr. Russell has not been charged with any of these crimes.

In the state case against Chelsea Chafee(5), Mr. Russell admitted in open public court that he sold his prescription drugs for money(2), admitted in open public court that he committed theft(3), and he possibly gave false testimony that may have been in direct conflict of Officer Gordon Schmill of Missoula County Sheriffs Department(4).

In that trial, Ms. Chafee was found guilty. Ms. Chafee appealed her conviction and won her appeal with the Montana State Supreme Court and was remanded for a new trial(6). After he became a state witness for Ms. Chafee’s trial, Mr. Russell has committed 5 probation violations and has suffered no consequences for his actions(7).

How about we prosecute Mr. Russell for his own admission to illegally selling his prescription drugs and for his own admission to committing theft. Please help us ask the Missoula County Attorneys Office to take action against Jeffery Raymond Russell for his admitted crimes.

According to Mr. Russell(8), he currently is employed by Garden City Janitorial(9) of Missoula, Montana.

Q Well, do you make money from selling your Lortabs?
A Yes, Sir.
Q So you sell your Lortabs illegally?
A Um, yes, sir.
Next is another excerpt for trial transcripts of possible false testimony which is perjury under Montana Law. Q= Attorney Rich Buley A= Jeff Russell.
Q All right. So you would agree that you really do hate Chelsea, right?
A For what she did, sir, yes.
Q Okay.
A As a person, no
Q Okay. So-- well, those will speak for themselves. Now you gave a statement to Detective Meier in -- on April 2nd, 2012; is that right?
A Yes, sir.
Q And you 've got a copy of that transcript of that statement?
A Yes, Sir.
Q Okay. And on the second page, you say about midway down, Yeah, she had can of, um--what is it? ---- lighter fluid in her car.
A Coleman fuel, lighter fluid. Yes, Sir.
Q Well, I'm just ---- I'm reading what your statements says here.
A Oh.
Q Do you have your statement with you? I can show it to you if you need it.
A Second page, you said?
Q Yes.
A Okay.
Q Page 2, Little Further, midway down, there's a big long paragraph and then a small answer after that. In which you were asked, Okay, did she tell you how she lit it on fire? And you said, Yeah, she had a can of---what is it? --uh lighter fluid in her car. Lighter fluid. And she sprayed the lighter fluid and threw a match in and it caught on fire. Right?
A Yes, sir.
Q Now when did Chelsea tell you this?
A It was about two days after she was---got bonded out of jail.
Q Okay.
A Two or three days.
Q And where did this happen?
A At work.
Q Well, at work?
A Yes, sir
Q Okay. So it was after you-- she bonded out, and then it was later at work she told you this?
A Yes, sir.
Q All right. Now, you probably not aware, are you, that there was no accelerants found in the fire?
A No, sir, I was not.
Q Obviously. So you told a little bit different story to Christy Clark, didn’t you, that Chelsea supposedly used coleman gas to light the fire?
A It was Coleman Fuel.
Q Coleman Fuel?
A I meant it as the same as lighter fluid.
Q Gas? or fluid?
A I believe it was coleman fuel, because she had it in the back of her pathfinder.
Q Okay. Fuel of--is it liquid or gas?
A Liquid, sir.
Q Okay. And you're aware, are you not, that in fact no accelerant Coleman gas was found in either of the vehicles or at the scene?
A No, sir.
Q Obviously, you weren't aware of that.
A No, sir.
Q So if no accelerants were ever used or found, why would Chelsea tell you she used accelearant?
A I have no clue, sir.
Q Okay.

Testimony from Deputy Gordon Schmill with Missoula County Sheriffs Department. The officer testified there were no accelerants as Jeff Russell alleged.

Q You said as part of your investigation you looked around the crime scene for any accelerants or any other evidence?
A I did, yes.
Q What did you find in terms of accelerants?
A I didn't find anything for accelerants.
Q You didn't find anything inside the vehicle or outside the vehicle?
A No sir, I didn't.
Q And I notice in going through this, in the evidence log, that there were on accelerants taken out of the Nissan Pathfinder either; is that your understanding?
A That's --- that's my understanding, sir. Yes, sir.

Testimony from Jeff Russell relating to theft from businesses while working for Garden City Janitorial. Q= Attorney Rich Buley A= Jeff Russell

Q= All right. Because one of the things Mr. Donovan asked you about, why you're here to tesitfy and you said, "Well, because it's not right," you didn't actually contact the police about any of this until April of 2012, right?
A Yes, Sir.
Q So what happend between October of 2011 and 8 months later, in April, to make you call the police?
A Conscience.
Q Conscience. Now in February, it's true, is it not, that Chelsea gave your employers photos of you stealing food from Safeway, and you lost your job in February. Right?
A Yes, Sir.
Q All right. And she also turned in photos to her employer, showing that you used unauthorized use of a computer at your job site, right, Garden City Janitorial?
A Yes, Sir
Q And that you were seen being photographed, taking money out of a loose change jar, right?
A Yes, Sir.
Q So all that happens in February. And so, you just happen to go to the police after that with this story, it's--because you're pretty mad about her ratting you out to the boss, right?
A No, Sir.
Q Oh, no. Then why didn't you go before?
A It just started bothering me, so I got it off my chest.

Q Are you now back working for Garden City Janitorial?
A Yes, Sir.
