Consolidating the school districts in Coahoma County will allow more resources to be provided to teachers and students. For years, both districts continue to face financial challenges, teacher shortages, and a failing academic rating. Both districts were on a short list to be taken over by the state before the pandemic.

Now, is the time to restructure our school systems to serve ALL students in Coahoma County better. Why pay administrative costs for two small rural districts? The funds saved can go to paying teachers more or to purchase more resources for students. We need an innovative educational leader to transform the lives of our children. 

If we consolidate, teachers and students in both districts can be provided valuable growth opportunities. It is time for us as a community to make the needed changes before the state returns and take over. When our districts are taken over by the state, we can expect to lose local control for five (5) or more years. Tunica County was taken over in 2015.

As a community, we must unite and take control of a local schools, before we lose control.
