Don't cancel, but postpone graduation. Midland and Lee high schools class of 2020!

The Issue

The students of the class of 2020 for both Midland High and Lee High, have endured, strived, struggled and overcome many obstacles and experiences over the last 12 years. These amazing young people deserve to be recognized. I completely understand and agree with the reasons that graduation will more than likely not happen as scheduled. The health and safety of all students, educators, parents, grandparents, and family traveling from near and far is paramount. With that understanding there needs to come some compassion for these graduates. Lets celebrate and recognize their great achievements, even if it needs to be postponed. Whether or not graduation takes place in early June, or July, or even August isn't the issue, the issue is to insure that this group of amazing young people not loose their chance to be recognized for all their hard work and dedication over these last 12 years. These kids were born in the mist of the tragedy of 9/11 and are now finishing out their highschool days with the cloud of the covid-19 pandemic. The two most important times in their lives birth and graduation have a dark cloud over them. Let's celebrate our kids before we send them out into the world, even if its later than usual, and send them out on a high note, so they are ready to go and conquer the world, and know that they are supported by their community 100%. Let's not cancel graduation, but postpone it.
