MINNESOTA STATE FLAG - HELP US SAVE OUR 1858 FLAG - LET US BE HEARD!!
The Issue
PLEASE HELP US SAVE OUR MINNESOTA STATE FLAG!!!!
This is our current Minnesota State Flag (circa 1893). Minnesota is a Dakota word with translates as "sky colored waters," and therefore the flag is meant to represent this light sky blue color. The Seal features a Native American riding on horseback, representing the heritage of Minnesota. Everything pictured on the Minnesota State Flag pictured below, is and are what makes Minnesota; Minnesota!
Supporters who want the Minnesota State Flag changed to one of these 6 flags below and are in favor of this change. Many of us Minnesotans are supporters of the "ORIGINAL" Minnesota State Flag supporters; we are NOT in favor of this change.
Will you please help us save the Minnesota State Flag by signing this petition?? The seal and flag are expected to start being used in May of 2024.
The Minnesota State Flag bears the state seal (revised in 1983), which is surrounded by the state flower and motto, a North Star, 19 stars (representing Minnesota as the 19th state after the original 13), and the dates 1893 (recalling the first state flag), 1858 (statehood), and 1819 (when Fort Snelling was founded).
Why do we need to rewrite history anymore? The motto of Minnesota L'Étoile du Nord is a French phrase meaning "The Star of the North" that is not even written on any of the 6 flags that are finalists.
Listed below are some of the reasons that people in support of the flag being changed. They want this changed after 131 years!!
- Critics claim the state flag represents racism and genocide
(this could not be further from the truth) - For years, there's been discussion about changing the flag (speculation)
- Supporters of changing Minnesota's official symbols say the current design contains offensive imagery.
- The flag has also been criticized because of a white settler tilling the land as a Native American rides off into the distance.
- It violates the tenets of "good flag design," or a simple flag with meaningful symbols. (Since when are we considered a symbol?)
- Some say it needed a face-lift because it looks like too many other states' flags that also have a blue background and the seal on them, so Minnesota's isn't memorable.
People are so tired of things having to change just because someone's offended over things! It's been our state flag since 1893!! Historical statues have been removed and torn down by mobs of those who are offended! Get over it and let the flag fly as it is!!
