A recent article from the Intercept details how oil company Enbridge was able to influence the environmental review process for Line 3 – at the expense of the indigenous communities fighting the project.
Danielle Oxendine Molliver was brought on by Minnesota’s Department of Commerce as a tribal liaison to consult with indigenous leaders about the pipeline approval process. In June, Oxendine Molliver was informed that Enbridge felt she was too biased, and successfully pressured the governor to marginalize her from the process. At the next meeting, she would not be answering questions about the pipeline’s impact on tribes – she was directed to serve cookies instead.
In July, she resigned from her position citing Minnesota’s failure to “fulfill its obligations of good faith and fair dealing with the tribes in connection with the Line 3 project.”
In our struggle to participate in the pipeline process, we were told repeatedly by the governor that it was “too early in the process” for him to take a position. But apparently, the governor is comfortable taking a position when asked by Enbridge.
This is despicable, and an absolute betrayal. Help us call Governor Dayton out for his hypocrisy? Tweet at him here: http://bit.ly/2wvb944.
Sincerely,
Rose, Frances, and the Youth Climate Intervenors
