Support "Friends of the Climate" in their efforts to stop a Natural Gas Plant.

The Issue

We, the Friends of the Climate, urge you to sign this petition to tell Minnesota Power and the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission and the world, that we want to turn away from using fossil fuels. The climate crisis is everywhere, why add to it locally? Below is a description of who we are, and what we want you to help us accomplish.

A group of Duluth-area high school and college students -- “Friends of the Climate” Claire Anderson, Helen Clanaugh, Izzy Laderman, Bella Maki, and Anna Mayou -- has been granted leave to file an amicus curiae brief in a court case challenging Minnesota Power’s plan to build a new gas plant in Superior, Wisconsin. The plan was approved in October by the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC), against the recommendations of an Administrative Law Judge who found the plant unnecessary and a waste of customer dollars and that Minnesota Power could more cheaply meet customer needs with renewable energy. Minnesota Power would own half the new gas plant, at an estimated cost of $350 million to customers. It's a cost on finances and our future. We want to use your names, and your numbers to help us appeal this decision and show Minnesota that we will not stand to further the climate crisis.

Help us make a difference locally, but ultimately world wide. We need the environment to survive, and we only have 11 years to help it before global warming is irreversible. Don't add to it. Save the Twin Ports from making a deadly mistake.

This group has the support of MCEA, The Sierra Club and all the other groups who are appealing the decision to allow the unnecessary gas plant to be built.
