Justice for Lightening - End the suffering close Hightail Rescue, Hawley MN

The Issue

Close Hightail Rescue

This petition was established in honor of a trick horse named Lightning, to prevent more horses from suffering the same fate.
Rescue work can be a thankless job. However, at some point along the way, Hightail Rescue failed its mission and caused pain and suffering to the horses residing there.
Hightail Ranch and Rescue has approximately 75 horses residing on the property. Since April, six horses have died under various circumstances. Losing 8% of the horses in such a short time is very concerning, and in at least two of those cases, it appears the Executive Director, Charlotte Tuhy, failed to provide basic veterinary care for the horses until it was too late and they had experienced prolonged suffering.
Ms. Tuhy, until very recently, maintained control over all decisions regarding the health care for these animals. We believe that Ms. Tuhy has hoarding tendencies, inhibiting her ability to care properly for the horses and set appropriate limits on the numbers at the already overcrowded ranch. It is apparent, at the very least, that she has a need to be in control of the situation, and did not follow the repeated requests of the volunteers to provide adequate care for the animals.
