Saige Fehresti started this petition to Minnesota Governor and

Minnesota's governor, Tim Walz, made the executive decision to extend the current Stay at Home order to May 18, 2020, restricting many small businesses from being able to reopen. This order, while in place to protect Minnesotans, is also unequally affecting small businesses, especially photography businesses that can resume in compliance with all the safety measures.

For photo sessions (high school graduation photos, immediate family sessions, maternity shoots, engagement sessions, and maternity shoots), clients and photographer can drive separately to shoot locations. Sessions would be between 2 and 5 people, including photographer, and we would only be photographing people who are already sheltering together. All shoots would be outdoors and in open air. At this time, outdoor activities are allowed and even recommended for mental and physical wellbeing. Additionally, social distancing of 6+ feet is easily maintainable and can be enforced given the nature cameras, lens' focal lengths, and the act of photographing. All appointments can be scheduled online and all payments can be processed online, leaving no sales contact between photographer and client. All editing of images and photo delivery is entirely electronic. No items will be touched or shared between photographer and clients/other clients so no sanitation or cleaning needs to be done. Photographers can wear masks to limit the risk of spreading illness. The majority (if not all) of Minnesota photographers' work is between the months of May-October. If the restrictions are extended, this will affect our only busy season of the year. This will affect our entire business and livelihood.

These restrictions are not only affecting photographers but also the community of people who are wanting their special moments documented. Engaged couples are already having to make hard decisions to postpone their weddings. Those wanting to have their intimate ceremonies and elopements documented should not take another hit to their special day by not being able to have their photographer present. If weddings with 10 or less people are considered "essential" to resume, what difference does it make if one of the 10 people present is a photographer or a family member? Mothers-to-be want their maternity and newborn memories documented; these are moments they'll never get back. Seniors (in high school and college) are missing their long-awaited graduation celebrations. They're wanting to invest in graduation photos but being turned away because photographers are not able to freely work.

Please consider signing this petition as we are fighting for our chance to work again, safely and within appropriate means, to serve our community and document moments they won't get back.
