We have a Solution for Bengaluru Traffic : Move the Goods sheds Stations out of City.

The Issue

Everyone, not only knows about, but also experience on a regular basis the perils of Bengaluru Traffic. Many things have been tried in the past - flyovers, expressways, underpass, and one-ways. But do we have an alternative solution to this problem? Something that does not involve roads at all? We probably might... Trains! Yes. I believe Railways is the solution to the Bengaluru Traffic and NO we need not build new Railway Stations or lay new tracks to use it. We have everything in a ready to use condition. All we might have to do is UPGRADE. The opening of the East-West corridor or the Purple Line of Metro saw the footfalls increase to over one lakh passengers a day. This stands as a proof that people WANT an alternative to road transport for various reasons. Just by increasing the frequencies of Trains between few prominent and select stations, not only can we solve this (in)famous Bengaluru Traffic Snarls, but this will by default increase the demands to upgrade the railway stations themselves. For instance, in the EastITPL: Just behind the ITPL bus stop we got railway for goods shed Station. This was built when travelling to Whitefield was equivalent to travelling to Mysuru today... almost like going to next city/town. Now that the city has expanded so much that Whitefield is considered a household name and is conceived as "a stone throw away" not considering the traffic, it would be wise to shift the goods shed station to the current perceived boundary of the city and put this station to good use. Though the Govt. has initiated Upgrading work it is still on snail’s pace (http://goo.gl/6Yuil9 KR Puram: The most (in)famous and incessant traffic jam of Bengaluru. All the more reason to use this station for the alternative transport, for this traffic jam happens right next to the Railway Station. Byappanahalli: We got Bagmane Tech Park at just 4kms away from Railway Station, we got both Metro and Railway station, traffic there should be signal free if only Trains are more frequent irrespective of Metro Kengeri: Though now the frequencies between Mysuru and Bengaluru has increased the connection between other parts of cities has yet to increase In the South East: Bellandur: The railway station is just 1.45 kms off ring road. This will be surely welcome, for the IT hub is right on the other side of the Ring road. You can expect a major chunk of the IT crowd to use it. In the North we have:Hebbal: Yet another major connect to another IT Hub. This station although already in function, sees very less number of Trains and frequencies are quite negligible too.Airport : A railway track is already in place, even before the new airport was built. However it is of least usage apart from as a pass through. Upgrading this track and adding a station here would save the usage of road travel to the airport. In the North West,Yeshwanthpura: This station being next to Metro on one side and to BMTC bus terminal on the other side can be the next hub alike Majestic. At Central we got,Majestic: Being the hub for BMTC, Namma Metro and Railway station no train should stop in a platform for more than 20 mins. It should only be a connecting hub. Not Terminal stations. Cantonment Railway Station: Why do we need a Good shed at the centre of city, let the goods get distributed in the city outskirts itself. We can make use of this space to increase no. of platforms. Few optimal ways to work towards traffic free would be1. No Station platform should be empty for more than 10 Mins in peak Hours.2. The long journey Trains can be scheduled to arrive at non-peak hours.3. Terminate all the trains outside the city. As we run out of non-renewable energy for fuel, we look out for renewable sources. It is high time we look for alternative solutions to our never ending traffic snarls. Let us stop making 'traffic jams' synonymous with Bengaluru City.

And there's been surveys being carried out since 1983 by GoK itself that recommends Urban Railways for Bengaluru. The link is here .http://www.urbantransport.kar.gov.in/Bangalore_CRS_Final_Report.pdf
