In the early hours of Saturday, April 4th 2020, my older brother, a 56-year-old father of one, was killed in a road traffic collision. He was passing through a junction on a green light, and was hit by another vehicle running the red light. The impact caused my brother to hit a lamppost, and his car caught fire. He died instantly. Here’s the news report of the collision.

In 2017, plans were announced to raise the maximum sentence for causing death by dangerous driving to life imprisonment. Three years on, this still hasn’t been passed into law. The current maximum sentence is 14 years - with a reduction of up to a third for an early guilty plea, a killer driver could be free again in just over 4.5 years. Meanwhile, many innocent families like mine are serving a life sentence through no fault of their own. However, it seems their situations have been forgotten by the powers that be.

Please sign in support of getting this legislation passed into law, and making sure that killer drivers receive the punishment they deserve. Thank you.
