16th January as National Entrepreneurship Day

The Issue

There is World Entrepreneur's Day. There are many Countries like US who celebrate the spirit on entrepreneurship. Why not India ? Indian entrepreneurs also deserve a day to celebrate their contribution, hard work and efforts in Nation Building. Lets have our Entrepreneurship day on 16th Jan. This is a symbolic day because it was this day when for the first time, start-ups and entrepreneurs got a central stage with launch of Startup India action plan by Honorable Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi in 2016. With a sense of appreciation and gratitude , We request Government of India to declare 16th January as "National Entrepreneurship Day".

An entrepreneur is a person  who exercises initiative by organizing a venture to take benefit of an opportunity and, as the decision maker, decides what, how, and how much of a good or service will be produced.

Entrepreneurs are both, Chief Executive Officer(CEO) as well Chief Plumbing Officer(CPO)

According to economists, entrepreneurs are not necessarily motivated by profit but regard it as a standard for measuring achievement or success.

Why Entrepreneurs Are Important for the Economy?

Entrepreneurs promote capital formation, employment generation, wealth creation, and distribution, increasing GDP and per capita income,  improvement of the standard of living, facilitates overall development, balances regional developments, reduces the concentration of power.

Entrepreneurs Create New Businesses. Path breaking offerings by entrepreneurs, in the form of new goods & services, result in new employment, which can produce a cascading effect or virtuous circle in the economy. The stimulation of related businesses or sectors that support the new venture adds to further economic development.


Their innovations improve our standard of living. In short, in addition to creating wealth from their entrepreneurial ventures, they also create jobs and the conditions for a prosperous society. Some famous entrepreneurs have used their money to finance good causes, from education to public health to improve the quality of life. 

World Entrepreneurship day(WED) on 21st August.

Every year, August 21 is the WED : World Entrepreneurs’ Day. The purpose of the World Entrepreneurs’ Day is to create awareness for entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership throughout the world. WED is the perfect day to celebrate the people who start a business alone. WED is the day of founders, managers, producers, contractors, industrialists, innovators, administrators, designers and producers. AIBA, the Alliance of International Business Associations invites everyone to organize happenings around the world to promote WED. World Entrepreneurs Day is a great opportunity to push philanthropic, social and ethical business practices via conferences, awards, and initiatives.

The United State of America They celebrate Entrepreneurship 3rd Tuesday in November , day on Entrepreneurs’ Day, and insofar American holiday, was started in 2010 by David Hauser and Siamak Taghaddos, co-founders of Grasshopper U.S.A celebrate entrepreneurship day on every 3rd Tuesday of November on this day they appreciate the work of new venture and entrepreneur by awarding them some sort of finance and other liabilities.

On this day, entrepreneurs are encouraged to thank mentors, give funding and advice, and spread the word about how to achieve success in business. People who are not yet successful entrepreneurs might want to read the biography of a particularly successful business man or woman in order to inspire themselves.

How government is concerned for entrepreneurs and startups ?

Three Year Tax Holiday For Startups.
Capital gains shall not be taxed on investments in regulated fund of funds for startups.
Hub to support and escalate Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe entrepreneurs.
Rs 500 crore earmarked for SC/ST and women entrepreneurs under the Startup India scheme.
Entrepreneurship to be taught through MOOCS – Massive Open Online Course. This will open up access to educational resources across the country.
Motor Vehicles Act to be amended to enable entrepreneurship in the road transport sector.
Long-term capital gains for unlisted firms lowered from three to two years.
The FM also announced the setting up of a fund to raise Rs 2,500 crore annually for four years to finance startups.
Amendment in the Companies Act, 2013 to ensure better startup ecosystem and tackle the registrations in a hassle-free manner.
Online courses for educating the masses for Entrepreneurship education and encourage people to participate willingly.
 

The Government will provide all kind of support and aid to the Startups that lie under the above-mentioned eligibility criteria.


What surveys say:

A number of active investors in the ecosystem has grown from 220 in 2014 to 490 in 2015, depicting a 2.3X growth.
Total funding in 2015 has grown by 125% over 2014. Similarly, the number of accelerators grew by 40% from 80 in 2014 to 110 in 2015.
Today, India currently has more than 48 million small businesses, double the number of the small companies here in the U.S. (23 million). According to a report by Business Today (India).
 

India has paved its way to secure the third position in the world in terms of the number of startups, 4200 and counting, a growth of 40%, by the end of 2015.
The startup ecosystem has generated employment for around 80,000 to 85,000 people in total.

Start-up India; Action Plan, Eligibility & Scheme Details. On 16th Jan 2016, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi announced a bunch of benefits and schemes to promote start-up ecosystem in India. The event was called 'Startup India'

So we (Budding as well as early stage entrepreneurs along with mentors at LEMON) are filing this petition to request Indian Govt to declare 16th January a National Entrepreneurship Day in India.

A day dedicated to the life of an entrepreneur, where we could thank the entrepreneurs who strive to make the world a better place to live!
