As per present procedure, applicants applying first time for passport or whose passport has expired before three years, are required to visit the  police station, for  undergoing police verification/identification before issuance of new/fresh passport. Before that, Passport office/seva kendra is verifying all the documents, takes photo and prints of all fingers & both toes of hands of applicants, in computer system. The  e data can easily be shared with the police station for their records, thus not compelling applicants  to visit police station. The repetition of verification of documents and identification process at police station, compel  applicants/police officers to waste time/energy. If police's role is restricted only to find out that applicant is having clear police histroy and is staying at the address mentioned in applicantion, time/energy of applicants/police officers will be saved,ultimately speeding up the issuance of passport. For proof of  police visit, the constable who visits place of applicant can capture signature and photo of applicant on hand held tablets for records.
