Religious co-existence In Ghanaian Public Mission Schools

Religious co-existence In Ghanaian Public Mission Schools
Why this petition matters

Mission schools though built by Churches or Islamic Organizations are funded by public funds through taxes from all Ghanaians irrespective of their faith.
Since the Ghana is a non religious state but a secular state, all public funded activities including education must respect the rights of all religions to practice their religion and to manifest same as enshrined in the nation's constitution.
Therefore, the state as the prime protector of the fundamental human rights of it citizens which includes freedom of worship and manifesting same most not be seen to be funding activities that are in contravention of this principles.
It is therefore the view of these petition that the state takes immediate step to halt the abuse of religious freedoms in all state funded educational institutions to promote national cohesion.
As a Ghanaian, the unnecessary tensions caused in our public schools such as Wesley Girls SHS by the denial of Muslim students the right to practice their religion is an old phenomenon in especially some Christian public funded schools whose prominence as centres for quality education was born out of investment done by the state and therefore unacceptable for this institutions to be seen infringing on the fundamental human rights of all Ghanaians.
It is also our view that the flagrant disrespect of GES directives by public schools must stop immediately as it undermines state agencies who are to ensure national cohesion in all spheres of our lives as a people.
