Justice for War Widows - Cyfiawnder ar gyfer Gweddwon Rhyfel

Widows of servicemen who lost their lives during active service are entitled to a war widow’s pension to help to compensate for their enormous loss and help their family financially.

War widows who remarried during the period 1973-2005 have to give up their war widow pension, but war widows who remarried before or after don’t.

This is grossly unfair. War widows and their families who have lost a loved one in such a way have made a huge sacrifice for our country and deserve just and equal treatment.

My constituent Kath Webster of Connah’s Quay is one of those affected. Her husband Sergeant Malcom Wigley of the Royal Welsh Guards was killed during the Falklands War in 1982 when RFA Sir Galahad was struck by Argentinian forces. He was aged just 31 and the couple’s son Bryan was just four. When Kath married again 20 years ago she lost her pension.

This is a discriminatory situation and I would urge you all to sign my petition so that we can get justice for Kath and other brave widows like her across Wales and the UK.

I/We call for the Ministry of Defence to end the injustice and give all UK war widows equal rights to a war widow’s pension for life, regardless of whether or when they remarry.

Mae gan weddwon milwyr a fu farw wrth wasanaethu yr hawl i Bensiwn Rhyfel Gwraig Weddw i helpu i wneud iawn am eu colled enfawr ac er mwyn helpu eu teuluoedd yn ariannol.

Bu’n rhaid i weddwon rhyfel a ailbriododd yn ystod y cyfnod 1973-2005 roi'r gorau i’w pensiwn gweddw rhyfel, ond does dim rhaid i weddwon rhyfel a ailbriododd cyn neu ar ôl hynny wneud hynny.

Mae hyn yn andros o annheg. Mae gweddwon rhyfel a'u teuluoedd sydd wedi colli anwyliaid yn y fath fodd wedi gwneud aberth enfawr dros ein gwlad ac yn haeddu cael eu trin yn gyfartal a theg.

Mae fy etholwr Kath Webster o Gei Connah yn un o'r rhai sydd wedi’i heffeithio. Cafodd ei gŵr, y Sarjant Malcolm Wigley o’r Gwarchodlu Brenhinol Cymreig, ei ladd yn ystod Rhyfel y Falklands ym 1982 pan gafodd RFA Sir Galahad ei tharo gan luoedd yr Ariannin. Dim ond 31 oedd ei gŵr a dim ond pedair oedd eu mab. Pan ailbriododd Kath 20 mlynedd yn ôl collodd ei phensiwn.

Mae hon yn sefyllfa wahaniaethol a byddwn yn eich annog i gyd i arwyddo fy neiseb fel y gallwn gael cyfiawnder i Kath a gweddwon dewr eraill fel hi ar draws Cymru a'r DU.

Rwyf/rydyn yn galw ar y Weinidogaeth Amddiffyn ddiweddu’r anghyfiawnder a rhoi hawliau cyfartal i ôll weddwon rhyfel y DU i bensiwn gweddw rhyfel am eu hoes, yn ddifater o os neu pryd gwnawn ail-briodi.
