Friends,
While we send copies of this petition to the Ottawa Government, asking them to release safety data on Glyphosate, it now looks increasingly likely that the Government regulators have either never seen this safety document, or they are unwilling to disclose this data to the population.

It is out understanding of the law that, if the safety data of a product cannot be disclosed to the people, then the product itself cannot be released to the public either.

There will be follow up requests made to Health Canada through access to information act along these lines. However, this update is about another channel of action. Labs in Canada are now in the business of offering service to test food items for glyphosate concentration. This was not possible only a few months ago. The cost too is not exorbitant, and running at around CAD 200 to 300 per test depending on the item to be tested.

So, I have already sent out a letter to the provincial ministry of health, in BC, asking them to consider setting aside a small budget to start testing local food for glyphosate. Others are joining up writing to their respective Governments. Sample letters are sampled in my blog, in case you need to use and modify them : http://www.tonu.org/2015/11/07/testfoodbc/ I realize that a lone person writing on this might not impress our local Government.

But if these ministries receive hundreds, or thousands of letters, that should provide public pressure. Folks might demand or request their Government puts into place a food testing scheme that includes testing for presence of Glyphosate, and make the results accessible to people. There are over 80 supporters from a low population town such as my home town of Delta, and many more from nearby towns of Surry, Richmond or Vancouver. People that signed this petition from the lower mainlands of British Columbia would easily cross a thousand. So it should be reasonable to expect twenty or thirty persons ready to meet the town councillors and request that they allocate a thousand or two dollars towards seasonal or annual testing of a few common food items, and make the results pubic.

I am willing to join efforts to meet any town councillor within a few hours of driving distance from my home. Others, in far off provinces, too, could consider similar efforts and we stay connected on this. We are all in it together.

If we can get a single municipality, or a single provincial ministry, to take initiative in starting to test our food, that is a trigger that can be used to influence the others in a cascading effect.

So, if you folks think this is a good idea to go meet the local councillors, mayors and the MLA, then join me, and let us decide how to plan and coordinate this effort.

If you are interested, please organize, or send me a note, at tony.mitra@gmail.com.
Let us try to find a solution to this issue of how much glyphosate is already in our food.

This is a battle we can win. Cheers.
