RESTORATION OF HEADMISTRESS OF ABURI GIRLS' SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

RESTORATION OF HEADMISTRESS OF ABURI GIRLS' SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
The Issue
Honorable Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, we, Concerned Old Girls and Parents of Aburi Girls' Senior High School, extend our compliments to you.
It is with utmost concern that we write to petition you on the reported transfer of the incumbent Headmistress of the above-mentioned school, Mrs Alice Prempeh-Fordjour and her replacement with a new person.
Honorable Minister, Mrs Prempeh-Fordjour was asked to step aside under interdiction, pending investigations into alleged collection of monies at the school on 1st September, 2021 when the Green Track Students reopened for their second semester.
We would, however, like to put on record that it is we the Parents who took the decision to make contributions to augment the need for more furniture, as the population of the School has doubled. This decision was taken at three separate PTA meetings:
24th of April, 2021 with Form 1 Parents
1st May, 2021 for Form 3 Parents
15th May, 2021 for Form 2 Parents.
We humbly appreciate the great lengths to which Government has gone to provide our children with quality free Senior High School Education, including Uniforms and daily meals, plus a new dormitory and classroom blocks with furniture in these facilities.
However, with the inception of the double track FSHS policy, the school population automatically doubled, hence the need for more furniture in the classrooms, dormitories, the Dining Hall and other areas. Parents were made aware at all the PTA meetings that Government, through the Education Ministry and the Director General's offices had already been written to for the provision of extra furniture.
Since some of our daughters were to sleep on mattresses on the floor under this harsh Aburi weather condition, there was the need for intervention by the Parents, while waiting for the response from Government. This urgency led to all Parents agreeing by motion to contribute a minimum, one-time voluntary amount of GHC100 for furniture. The PTA Chairman took the lead to pay for five (5), and others followed.
Another voluntary contribution of minimum GHC100 towards extra tuition for teachers was agreed, so that there would be no need for individual extra classes for anyone. These decisions were solely taken by us the parents, many of whom double as Old Girls as well as interested stakeholders. Our objectives were primarily for the well-being of our daughters and also to augment the immeasurable efforts already made by Government.
Honorable Minister, we write to say that all these were done against the wishes of the Headmistress, who insisted we wait for Government's response as the situation was going to be temporal.
We view it as a matter of grave concern, therefore, for a decision to be taken to transfer the well-meaning and hardworking Headmistress out of the School, based on decisions taken by Parents.
Concerning the sale of the 75th anniversary cloth, approval was given by the Director General's outfit, to discuss with Parents to purchase for our wards only on voluntary basis. Due to the Covid restrictions, the day on which school reopened and end of vacation were the main days possible to reach parents for voluntary purchase, hence the sale of cloth on those days. These items are regarded as branded paraphernalia and it is the wish in any school across the world to possess them voluntarily. It has never been a compulsory acquisition for the students, especially as the Government has graciously provided each student with a church cloth.
With the foregoing, therefore, we would like to appeal to you, Honorable Minister, to intervene and restore our hardworking Headmistress to her position at Aburi Girls' Senior High School.
We as Concerned Old Girls and Parents of one of the top Girls' Senior High School in our beloved Ghana, are very concerned that the removal of such a firm and responsible would derail the progressive strides made by your honorable Ministry and the Ghana Education Service in the past decade or so to restore Aburi Girls' Senior High to its former glory.
We would hereby like to implore you, Honourable Minister, to reconsider with your Team the decision made and restore Mrs Prempeh-Fordjour as Headmistress of Aburi Girls' Senior High School, to continue upholding the good principles and strategies you have for the sector, and particularly to maintain the high disciplinary values of the School.
We are most grateful for your kind consideration and look forward to a favorable response.
