Harkaway – Let’s treasure what we have, a rich history that is worth preserving.

In 1996 for example - a report commissioned by the City of Casey looked at the Aboriginal archeology in the Casey Foothills. It was found that there are a number of ‘high archaeological sensitive’ aboriginal sites in Harkaway, particularly along King Road, between Harkaway Road and Baker Road, the area along Walsdorf Creek and interestingly it appears, on or very close to the proposed development site itself.

Did you also know that German settlers purchased Crown Allotments in 1853 and their properties bordered with King Road (or Koenig Road as it was then called).
The land was considered ideal for farming with its ‘good red soil’ with patches of ‘stringybark’.
Koenig Road was marked as ‘Cattle Road to Water’ and ran to the Cardinia Creek.

Harkaway is still a beautiful environment, it is worth protecting and it needs your on-going support. Please forward this petition. Thank you.
