Co-Living is No-Living
The Issue
Plans for co-living are being hailed by the Fine Gael government as a "new trendy option" for those in need of homes. In reality they are unaffordable, box rooms with pull out beds that will have no impact on the housing crisis that is just being exploited by developers in pursuit of profit.
We condemn the decision by An Bord Plaenála to grant planning permission for 204 co-living units in central Dún Laoghaire and call on the Minister, Eoghan Murphy, to outlaw these type of units and scrap the Strategic Housing Development legislation as it is being used by developers to fasttrack plans for purely profit driven development that contribute nothing to the much needed provision of homes. We need decent quality, affordable and public homes catering for families of varying sizes and for individuals.
