Minimize regulations against students filming in schools.

Minimize regulations against students filming in schools.
The Issue
Regulation of the chancellor No. A-640 prohibits students from taking any pictures or videos in their schools, including projects and performances, without direct permission from the DOE and the School. This regulation makes it incredibly difficult for students to get legal permission to film in school and allows for the punishment of students who don't get that explicit permission.
Regulation A-640 is a rule that public schools don't enforce, but it allows schools to make students take down photos and videos posted on social media if reported. Today more students than ever are using visual media to express themselves, and school should be a safe place to do such.
I filmed a short film that contained scenes that took place at my school. I spent hundreds of dollars and weeks putting it together. After getting reported to the school for using swear words in the video, I had to take the video down altogether. The advisors at my school cited Regulation A-640 as why I had to take the video down. I was heartbroken, and I had no choice but to take my work down from the public, or else I would get into further trouble with my school. This regulation needs to be changed so this doesn't have to happen to another student trying to use their school to film a project or a student who wants to take a fun Instagram picture. Students should be able to express themselves with a camera. Let's not limit their creativity.
