Today was a beautiful day in Raleigh, NC. Outside, it was 78 degrees and sunny. I was enjoying the beautiful weather while studying spanish in the school courtyard when it occured to me that I was getting a bit warm. Although I was wearing a short-sleeved shirt, sitting in the sun for an extended period of time caused me to sweat. All I could think about was how enjoyable the weather would be if I was simply wearing a shirt with no sleeves (essentially a tank top). It was then that I had my realization: Why can't I? Females roam the school in their three-finger-width tanks every day. Why can't men do the very same? This is a necessary amendment to Millbrook's dress code because the current dress code prohibits men from wearing tank tops, a type of shirt that many women have the luxury of wearing to school. The denial of this basic right is sexist because it discriminates a man's freedom to wear a tank top whereas women are granted that very right; therefore, this policy should not be accepted by the student body at Millbrook High School.
