Ben Paine started this petition to Mill Valley Community and

Mill Valley Middle School is scheduled to start in-person learning on Nov 30, 2020. Please help in protecting our teachers and students and sign this petition to ask the district to return to in-person learning after the holidays. Our teachers are scared and rightfully so.

What’s the Rush?
When asked why not delay reopening until the new year, the districts response was because we can as we currently meet the state guidelines to reopen. Why rush? Reopening right after the Thanksgiving holiday makes no sense. With the added risk that a holiday brings, why not wait until Jan 2021 to see what the impact of travel and large gatherings will have on the local Covid-19 cases before reopening?

Teachers' Concerns

  • Returning during a time of potentially-high infection rate may shift the on-campus time to teachers spending more time on safety protocols and less on instruction
  • Disruption to student learning as students will participate in only 3 of 6 classes at a time
  • The academic load may be unbalanced, with the possibility of more core subjects one six-week term and fewer the next
  • Small group work cannot take place with 6-feet of distance

Covid-19 Facts as of Oct 25th
