Stop Wearing Fur!
On December 31, 2013, a million people flocked to Times Square to watch the eternally famous ball drop. While there, they were entertained by Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve, featuring the biggest musicians of 2013, including Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and Miley Cyrus.
In her performance of her two latest songs, "Adore You" and "Wrecking Ball", Miley Cyrus wore a large, white fur coat.
For anyone who doesn't know, animals, including chinchilla, coyote, and, in the case of Miley's coat, arctic fox, are raised in tiny, rusty and sharp cages. They recieve no freedom, health care or access to the habitats to which they are native. When it comes time for their death, workers may club the animals to death, kill them in gas chambers, or, even more shockingly, simply choose to skip this step and skin them alive.
A normal sized fur coat is made of about fifty animals. Because Miley's coat was so large, it probably used more than that.
All this, this horrific murder and life of misery, for a coat.
In addition, Miley Cyrus is one of the most popular artists today, with over 37 million fans. By publicly wearing fur, she is influencing hundreds of people, especially young girls. Trying to imitate their idols, these girls will want to wear fur too.
Please sign this petition to tell Miley Cyrus to do good in the world by pledging to stop wearing fur. Many other celebrities have taken this same pledge, most notably P!nk, who has taken the next step and is speaking out publicly about the horrors of the fur industry.
In addition, please join us every Friday at 7:00 PM for our weekly Tweetstorm. Tweet to @MileyCyrus with a polite message encouraging her to stop wearing and endorsing fur. Remember to use the hashtag #boycottfurmiley. Also, post on her Facebook wall with the same message.
Letters also help, so please contact Miley Cyrus and tell her to boycott the fur industry here: http://www.mileycyrus.bz/website/contact/
