The Issue
“I will tell the stories of the injustices of my brother's death until I die, and when I die, I have the promises of my children that they will tell them for me,” Cheryl Owsley Jackson
Cary Owsley died with a cop's gun, the cop was the father of his adult stepson, those stepsons hating Cary because of his interracial marriage to their mother (Cary is the only person of color in this story).The cop/dad worked the death scene, recognized the gun was his ( the cops). The cop then admits in his police report that he touched the gun (contaminated the evidence), moved the body, cut the rug Cary died on and put it in his car, even though he was off-duty. He stayed at Cary's house all night and helped clean up the death scene, including admitting that he witnessed "someone" burning the chair Cary died in in Cary's backyard the evening of his death. The day I posted the cop/dad’s police report admitting to the burning chair incident one of his sons (one of the stepsons who was in constant conflict with Cary) posted pictures of a fire in Cary’s backyard with the acronym, “LOL.”

The coroner ruled Cary's death a suicide he said, "based on the witnesses in the room." There was no autopsy, NO FORENSICS OF ANY KIND. Cary's body was taken to the funeral home and embalmed within hours of his death.
Deputies were suspended in this case but officials refused to fully investigate the case We had Cary's body exhumed and 2 pathologists ruled his death undetermined because of lack of evidence ( evidence destroyed by cops).
We hired a self-defense expert who believes a bruise on Cary’s hand is a result of a defense move called a thumb tab.
We are respectfully asking the Governor, state legislators, local, state, national and religious leaders/organizations with power and influence to hold Bartholomew Coroner Larry Fisher accountable by requiring him to change the death certificate of Cary Owsley from "Suicide" to "Undetermined" reflecting the findings of the pathologist chosen by Barth. Co. Judge Stephen Heimann to determine the cause of Cary Owsley's death.A second medical examiner agreed with the court-chosen pathologist's conclusion of "Undetermined." The court ordered the Owsley family to pay $20,000 to exhume Cary's body for a proper autopsy.
The community came together, having several rallies demanding Coroner Fisher allow the exhumation and autopsy of Cary’s body. He refused and both the Coroner and Cary’s wife fought us in court, but we ultimately won the right to exhume his body.
After our family endured the heartbreaking removal of Cary's body from the grave, we expected the death certificate to reflect the opinions of two medical doctors/licensed pathologists, and to over-rule the suicide determination given by Coroner Fisher, who by his own admission, has no medical or police qualifications. Fisher promised me, to my face, that he would honor what the experts concluded and change the death certificate. He has now made it clean that he has no intention of changing the death certificate.
Fisher didn't comply with the Indiana Code-501.2.2- requiring an autopsy. Three detectives were suspended/demoted because of a "failed investigation" and "conduct unbecoming an officer."And yet, the suicide ruling stands
Cary's death was ruled a suicide without an autopsy. Those with voices, power and influence are the only chance the Owsley family has to change this devastating/inaccurate conclusion to Cary's life. Please use your voice to help us.
CAN THERE BE ANY JUSTICE WITHOUT TRUTH? WE DON'T THINK SO. MAKE LARRY FISHER CONCEDE TO THE TRUTH AND CHANGE THE DEATH CERTIFICATE TO WHAT THE EXPERTS CONCLUDED.
