To release inmates that have at least served 80% of their time due to the CoVid-19 virus
The Issue
As we recently heard, Marion Correctional Facility has had 10 inmates and 27 CO's that have been infected by this deadly virus, 1 CO that has passed from it. These numbers increasing on a daily as it is worldwide. I am here to petition that we consider of letting inmates that have at least served 80% of their time and or shown that they respect authority as well as showing that they are capable of returning to society with the "good behavior” shown during their time, return back to their families at a time like this. A life is a life and whether it be the one person who has never been convicted of a crime in their life or someone who has been convicted because of an irresponsible choice that they have made, we are all human and we all bleed the same color blood. Whether this person returns back to court to prove that they are capable and have indeed been rehabilitated and the judge determines this case, or if these inmates stay on house arrest for the remainder of their time, these men/woman should have a chance to choose their own fate, not by the hands of someone else because the precautions are not being met for these human beings. I feel so strongly about this matter because I do have a significant other who is currently incarcerated in this exact prison and he has family to come home to, but for his fate to be determined by a deadly virus and the supervision and "precautions" that the prisons are or are not taking are simply not right nor fair. I'm not just doing this for his sake but for the sake of many other prisoners who have families and children to come home to. This is a very serious and cautious matter to be taking into deep consideration, but its better to save a life than take them away.
