I’m writing this on behalf of my partner, Rashon Kenney who is currently incarcerated in Ohio. I believe that the systems we have in place in our society failed him by a large margin.

He was originally sentenced to serve a six year sentence after an altercation with an officer while on leave from the Army. He has emotional and psychological issues that weren’t dealt with properly such as PTSD, bipolar, and intermittent explosive disorder. Rehabilitation would’ve been the best route rather than the unfair cards that he was dealt. As a first time offender, he recognizes the seriousness of his crime and deeply regrets his actions and has worked hard to improve his life. He fully understands the importance of finding the resources and ways to becoming the best person he can be. Rashon understands the importance in maintaining treatment moving forward.

I want to know why anyone deemed it necessary for this man to have his life taken away from ages 21-27. After volunteering to fight for his country and serve in Afghanistan, he returns with issues that weren’t his fault and instead of receiving the treatments he needed to help him, he was condemned instead.

I don’t want him to have to wait 2 more years to see his Grandmother who raised him. I don’t want him to have to wait 2 more years to get his life started. He is committed to changing his life and making a difference upon release.

I am respectfully asking we make this man’s dreams come true by granting him a conditional pardon to release him earlier than his sentenced date of release. We want to prove that with the proper resources, he is capable of great things.

Thank you for a moment of your time.
