Newsela has been part of MASD for approximately 3 years at the High School and Middle School levels. At this point, they use a free version. It is used as an online resource for news. The board was scheduled to vote on purchasing a $14,000 subscription for Newsela on June 8th. After hearing feedback from the community, they tabled the vote for the future.

While the administration is still insisting that they are not using Critical Race Theory or transgender language in the curriculum, Newsela is packed full of activist material that includes both of these topics.
