Dinnerbone recently announced that Minecraft Java accounts would have to migrate to a Microsoft account. He even promised everyone a cape. Cool, hey ?

What's not so cool is that thousands upon thousands of Minecraft accounts could be lost. Some people have had their accounts for years, and have lost their emails or been barred from it for various reasons. There is also the question of people who possess several alternate accounts, either for security or other reasons (Like playing on anarchy servers).

Dinnerbone assures everyone that the mod community will be fine. Nothing is sure actually. Several mod launchers, like the Technic Launcher, have recently informed their users that their launchers cannot use Microsoft registration. Many servers use these launchers to host their modpacks.

Finally, the whole decision looks simply like a money grab from Microsoft. Let's face it, many people will loose their accounts, and will have to buy another one once the account migration has happened. Who knows what they will implement after ?
