Michigan Restaurant Health Inspection Grading System
The Issue
Michigan's food industry has grown year-over-year, and with that, Michigan citizens need a better way of seeing which restaurants hold a higher sanitary quality and put focus and effort on health violations. New York and Los Angeles adopted a similar grading system as the one being proposed here, and with that they have seen an increase in restaurant foot traffic (more business) and a steep decrease in the amount of food-borne illnesses caused by poor sanitation.
A system like this is needed in Michigan because it helps individuals to know which restaurants adhere to the state's food and sanitation requirements and it helps restaurants to provide quality food with a guarantee that it has been stored and handled properly.
