Remove management of Chippewa Hills Pathway (Compartment 082) from the Michigan DNR Forest Resources Division and place it under the jurisdiction of the Michigan DNR Parks and Recreation Division.

Remove management of Chippewa Hills Pathway (Compartment 082) from the Michigan DNR Forest Resources Division and place it under the jurisdiction of the Michigan DNR Parks and Recreation Division.
The Issue
Being that Chippewa Hills is one of only 2 recognized non-motorized trail pathways in Alpena County, and being the most unique of the two, the commitment to the preservation of the pathway is crucial to the quality of life, tourism economy, and future of our region. The aesthetics, natural diversity, and access for non-motorized recreational use must be protected and responsibly managed with due regard to the non-motorized recreational value of the pathway. The Parks & Recreation Division manages for recreational access to healthy natural environments whereas the Forestry Resource Division manages for the economic value of current and future timber sales, the latter mission being a detriment to the preservation of the Pathway.
