The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has failed to properly examine and respond to the dangers of the insection at M24 and Turrill Road in Lapeer County. Recent construction along M24 and M21 has increased traffic flow through this intersection, and while this has been a dangerous insection for many years requiring a traffic light, there has been a substantial increase in serious accidents on a weekly basis due to this construction. Not installing or post poning the installation of this much needed traffic light not only endangers public safety, but adds unbudgeted burdens Lapeer County's response services, and places unplanned financial difficulties on all those involved. Lapeer County, and all those involved, should not have to absorb the burdens created from MDOT's failure to respond to these dangers. We urge MDOT to respond by: 1) Immediately installing temporary measures to resolve this dangerous and costly situation. 2) Study, design, and impliment a proper and permanent traffic control solution.
