Re-open Haddington Branch Line and Build New Rail Station

Re-open Haddington Branch Line and Build New Rail Station
The Issue
We the undersigned note that Haddington and the villages surrounding it are undergoing considerable housing development and growth in population.
We welcome the progress on delivering a new rail station for East Linton, which is largely the result of campaigning by Rail Action Group East of Scotland (RAGES) which also has the ambition to return a rail station to Haddington, and note the success of the Scottish Borders Railway, opened in 2015, which we believe demonstrates the positive impact investing in new rail projects can have on local communities and economies.
We further note the considerable public support for a rail station in Haddington identified by the 2019 Case for Change report for East Lothian Council, which concluded the development of a station for the town is a medium to long term option for developing local transport links, and its inclusion in the Council’s Local Development Plan Action Programme.
We urge the Scottish Government and its agencies to work with RAGES, East Lothian Council and other relevant partners to develop a plan for re-opening the Longniddry-Haddington branch line and building a new rail station in Haddington.
Promoted by Pat Gordon on behalf of Martin Whitfield, both at 65 High Street, Tranent EH33 1LN.
