Justice for Dori

The Issue

JUSTICE FOR DORI!

WHAT DO WE WANT?

  • REVOKE NICK MERCIER'S BAIL AND GET HIM OFF THE STREET.
  • GIVE NICK MERCIER THE MAXIMUM PENALTY.

In 2014, Dori was seriously injured by Nick via driving off while Dori was getting in the car. This resulted in a brain injury and multiple staples in her head. Nick got 4 months Huber. That is absolutely unacceptable. In 2017/2018, Dori's injuries resulted in several people, including Nick, making fun of the assault. Dori was depicted in bars getting ran over and people laughing at this, and even recreating the assault through taking pictures. Nick has several other charges: 2 OWIs, theft charges, multiple bail jumping charges, and several civil judgments. Then, on 8/16, Nick assaulted Dori again. He beat her, injuring her arm and face. Nick was arrested and spent 1 night in jail. He then got a $3,000 bail. A $3,000 bond for brutalizing someone emotionally and physically, being a repeat abuser to the same survivor, and with bail jumping (he clearly cannot follow rules of supervision or his bond rules) IS UNACCEPTABLE. He needs to be locked up for the safety of this community.

This is a serious, public health problem.

  • On average, 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States — more than 12 million women and men over the course of a year.
  • 1 in 4 women (24.3%) and 1 in 7 men (13.8%) aged 18 and older in the United States have been the victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime
  • Most female victims of intimate partner violence were previously victimized by the same offender, including 77% of females ages 18 to 24, 76% of females ages 25 to 34, and 81% of females ages 35 to 49

Here are a few things that you DO NOT WANT TO SAY TO A SURVIVOR OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE:

  1.  Why don’t/didn’t you just leave?
  2.  Relationships aren’t perfect, they all have issues.
  3. Why do you allow this? I never would.
  4. What?! Are you sure? He seems so nice? Are you being dramatic/overreacting?
  5.  Well we told you we didn’t like him.
