MICA Alumni: Pledge to Withhold Donations Until MICA Divests from Israel

The Issue

As alumni of the Maryland Institute College of Art we stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine and their fight for liberation, and with the students, faculty, staff, and community members who are demanding MICA divest from genocide.

It has been over 5 months since MICA students and faculty came together to demand that the school they invest so much in begin to reflect the values of its community - for MICA to call for a ceasefire and divest in relationships with organizations that profit from this ongoing violence.

Throughout all of this, the school has failed to publicly decry the violence it supposedly trains its students to stand against. It has continued its ongoing support of institutions that have shown an active role in this genocide.

It is time we as MICA Alumni step in to do what we can, which is stop all financial support of the school until it meets the demands of its community.

Each year, we receive emails to donate to support the school. Many of us have made these donations in good faith for years. But we refuse to let the school go on with business as usual while it keeps ties that are enabling this genocide.

If MICA does not openly divest from weapons manufacturers and companies with an interest in the Israeli occupation, and verbally acknowledge Palestinian existence and humanity, you will never see another dime from us.

Not only will we NO LONGER donate, we will use our voices to speak to each and every person with whom we attended MICA with to ensure they too never send another dime.

Disclose. Divest.

Or not another dime.
