Allow chickens/ Hens (No Roosters) in private properties in Miami Shores Village Florida

The Issue

We believe that having chickens in our properties make us more environmentally sustainable and happier.

We could not find anything in writing prohibiting chickens in our yards in our village but to avoid surprise visits from code enforcement, we are formally requesting that we can be allow to have chickens and hens in our yards (no roosters as are the ones that are loud).

Benefits of having chickens and hens in the yards/ gardens: They are highly beneficial, as they lay organic eggs as a food source for us, they eat garden weeds and insects, reducing the necessity for harmful weed killers and pesticides. Chickens consume scraps and produce natural fertilizer that improves soil quality and plant growth.

Benefits:

  1. Organic Fresh Eggs - Breakfast is ready! https://www.backyardchickencoops.com.au/blogs/learning-centre/chickens-101-the-benefits-of-keeping-chickens
  2. Biddie Biorecycling https://my.chicagobotanic.org/education/adult_ed/the-environmental-benefits-of-backyard-chickens/
  3. Fowl Fertilizer https://my.chicagobotanic.org/education/adult_ed/the-environmental-benefits-of-backyard-chickens/
  4. Environmental Egg-sistence https://my.chicagobotanic.org/education/adult_ed/the-environmental-benefits-of-backyard-chickens/

Chickens like most critters, are at their happiest when doing what comes naturally to them, eating veggies and bugs, digging in the dirt, pooping (fertilizer) and living a happy, carefree existence on the open range. Start thinking of names for your future chickens.
