Infringement upon students’ apparel should be created into a coequal right to freedom of expression with the extent of some boundaries. The idea that students are not allowed to wear what they want to school is borderline discriminatory and sexist. The idea of dress code is to create a “distraction free” learning environment for men/boys yet the “distraction free” zone only benefits the boys because admin is taking the time out of their day to pull the young women out of their learning environment to change. No boy is distracted by a woman’s shoulders shorts or even tight clothing. Girls shouldn’t be stopped from wearing shorts, skirts, tank tops, strapless shirts, or even off the shoulder shirts especially in 108 degree weather. Instead we as a district can come together and create boundaries instead of treating young women as objects when these a just body parts and they are not distracting. What a girl wears does not determine her intelligence or respect from others
