Do Not Shift IIT-INDORE Campus
The Issue
IIT Indore plans to shift to its permanent campus in village Simrol Indore (M.P.) sometime in July Most of the classes had already been shifted to a building that was-- and still is-- under construction and hosted classes in small rooms that were both dangerous(nothing fatal, we hope) and discomforting. What's a little debris, dust and cement, right? Respiratory concerns aren't immediately damaging to students and middle-aged professors either, the authorities very thoughtfully concluded. Professors and students were forced to suffer these all the while vary of avoiding any dangerous mishaps due to the heavy machinery installed in construction sites; and this of course doesn't include the ordeal it has been for those who are allergic to dust.
Six months into this and they plan to prematurely shift students in hostels that are surrounded by buildings that need heavy construction work. All these concerns raised by the students have been irresponsibly unresolved and unacknowledged so far. It is evident that the authorities have now turned a deaf ear. This has led to tremendous unrest among students, and has sent them into an anxious and agitated mood. So, while these young adults are supposed to focus on their research, academics and careers-- they have been dealing with daily problems due to incomplete construction.
All we ask is that this attitude of tolerance not be mistaken with ready acceptance; staying in a dusty, arid, under-construction building for months is both unsafe and poses incalculable damage to our health. Therefore I ask you to sign this petition and stop the college authorities from going forward this shift.
