DO WHAT'S RIGHT. SCHEDULE ANOTHER HEARING FOR LB-343 IN NEBRASKA!
The Issue
HELP US STOP THE INJUSTICE IN NEBRASKA. KILL LB-343! THIS BILL AFFECTS ALL PRACTITIONERS IN THE FIELDS OF NAIL TECHNOLOGY, ASTHETICS, BARBERING, COSMETOLOGY, MASSAGE THERAPY, AND AUDIOLOGY.
WE WANT A NEW PUBLIC HEARING with the Nebraska DHHS Committee. DHHS Committee Chair Merve Riepe and Vice Chair Steve Erdman have the authority to make it happen. Let them hear your voice!
On March 1, 2017, a public hearing was held on legislative bill 343 regarding Occupational Reform in the Cosmetology Industry in our state.
THIS BILL ALSO HAS SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES to the public health of Nebraskans and safety of our communities. The future of educational programs teaching students is in jeopardy. PROTECT THE STUDENTS. None of the Nebraska State Boards or Nebraska schools were invited or allowed participation in the drafting of this bill as experts in the field. The result is that much controversy now exists, regarding the lack of industry representation from Nebraska. This is a Nebraska issue!
THE INJUSTICE was remarkably demonstrated during the hearing. The time allotted for this hearing was approximately one hour. Dozens of opponents, from Nebraska, were not allowed to present their case with exhibits. THEIR VOICES were not heard. This bill was poorly scheduled for the morning on a day of celebration for the 150th Anniversary of Nebraska. Hearings are typically scheduled in the afternoon, in the event more time is needed. The hearing time can then be extended to accommodate constituents. The Hearing for LB343 or any bill never should have been scheduled on this Celebratory day. Senator Riepe is in charge of scheduling hearings for the Health and Human Service Committee. Senator Merv Riepe’s office told speakers that we would have 5 minutes to speak. When we arrived, the time was cut to 3 minutes.
Most importantly Senator Merv Riepe, as the Committee Chair nor the Vice Chair had control of the hearing floor. IT WAS UNRULY and UNJUST. The Senator asked that associations and boards speak first and they did nothing to ensure this was followed. At one point during the hearing, a board member was briskly pushed so another speaker could get in to speak before her. It was appalling to witness!
PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION for another hearing! Together, WE CAN KILL THE BILL!
