The Issue

My child, like many others with autism, has a habit of eloping. While this is common among autistic children, it can lead to serious safety concerns, particularly in public spaces like playgrounds.

According to a study published by the Interactive Autism Network, nearly half of children with autism attempt to elope, or wander off, from safe environments. This poses a specific threat in playground areas where children are supposed to relax and enjoy without fear of harm or endangerment. A fence around these playgrounds would play a key role in providing a secure space for all children, especially those with autism.

In a society that prides itself on inclusivity, it is time to acknowledge and cater to the unique needs of all our children. By installing safety fencing around children's playgrounds, we ensure that our public spaces are inclusive, safe, and enjoyable for all users, especially for those most vulnerable.

Please, let's make our playgrounds safer for children like my son, and all children who are at risk of eloping. Sign this petition to call for the installation of safety fencing in playgrounds for autistic children. Let our children play in peace and safety.
