Hello,

   I’m a student that attends Wilcox which is one of the few tech schools without an academic uniform. I am aware that the chances of successfully revoking uniforms are very slim however, that won’t stop my efforts to try.

   At Wilcox we do have a strict dress code and for the most part it is followed by the student body, even though there are some that break it. I believe that constant verbal reminders on the announcements about proper dress code will decrease the amount of students not following it. This way students still have the freedom of expressing themselves through clothing that makes them comfortable and still have individuality.

    The main problem that worries me with uniforms is how expensive it can get. Currently parents/guardians have to provide money for students shop uniforms, shop tools, lunch, yearly payments, extracurricular school activities (sports/dances, etc.) and field trips. All this alone can cost hundreds and now academic uniforms will be adding to that sum. I’m concerned with students having to dropout because expenses have became too much to handle.  

   The main reason uniforms may be added is to identify students better, however I believe there can be another solution that’s less expensive and less restricting. In conclusion it would mean a lot to me to spread the word and help this cause.
