MERCY FOR LOGAN GORDY
The Issue
#MERCYFORLOGANGORDY
{QUOTES AND INFORMATION GATHERED FROM DADE COUNTY SENTINEL}On October 3rd, 2019, Logan Gordy, his girlfriend Lexi Moore, and Moore’s friend were traveling to Moore’s house to retrieve something they had forgotten. While rounding one of the curved hills leading to Moore’s house an animal ran out in front of Gordy and he swerved to miss hitting it. When he swerved he lost control of the vehicle, fishtailed, and crossed the yellow line. When he finally regained control of the car they were topping the hill in the wrong lane. Another car was topping the hill on the other side at the same time. That car also swerved and the cars hit passenger to passenger. Moore was in the front passenger seat and therefore she died on impact. Logan and the other person in the car were both transported to the hospital by lifeforce. The people in the other car were also treated for their injuries.
Tiffany Robertson, Moore’s mother, has stated from the night of the wreck forward that she knows it was an accident and that she has no ill-intentions toward Gordy or his family. She has been to several news stations, the DA’s office, and others to voice her thoughts and to let it be known that she wants charges against Logan dropped. The DA is trying to prosecute Gordy for homicide by vehicle, five counts of serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving, and failure to stay in lane. Those charges together add up to 45 years jail-time. Robertson stated that “I have gone down there in person and cried and begged for the charges to be dropped, at least as far as Lexi is concerned. I know I don’t have any say in the other charges. If he goes to trial and loses, he is facing 45 years. They offered him a plea deal and I told him not to take it because it meant jail time and he would be a felon.” Logan has had to take a year off at school and he is having trouble getting jobs because of the charges. Robertson was quoted saying “There is no punishment they can give him that he is not dishing out to himself. It is draining him and it is draining me.” She goes on to say “ Lexi wouldn’t want this. She fell head over heels for him. Logan cherished her. He is like a son to me. Essentially, they are taking another child from me. I think I should have some say over this, but they are not even listening to me.” {END OF QUOTE FROM DADE COUNTY SENTINEL}
Robertson and Gordy have both been issued gag orders. This means that they are not allowed to talk about anything that has to do with the case. They cannot post anything about Logan or Lexi until the case is over. Robertson has been using social media to share her story. Both to grieve the loss of her daughter and to help other parents going through the loss of a child(ren). She is now unable to do this until the case is over. Her freedom of speech is being taken from her and there is nothing she is able to do about it.
Dade County, I address you as a whole now, when I ask that you join us in signing this petition to have mercy for Logan Gordy. You all know you have been guilty of speeding, gaining speed to climb a hill, swerving to miss an animal or anything else in the road. This horrible accident happened because another car was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Lexi’s death should teach us not only to be safer when driving, but to always Love Like Lexi. Just like the hashtag stated. The hashtag that was started by the friends who mourned her as the news trickled out of what happened. If you knew Lexi at all you know how much love she had for Logan. You know she would not want this for him. She would do anything and everything in her power to help him. As the adopted mother of Lexi’s cousin, Lori Gordy’s friend, and a citizen who was lucky enough to witness the love these two teenagers shared, I ask you today. Please sign this petition. Please help us help Logan. For Lexi.
