Justice for Alexia!
The Issue
Alexia Gil-Reyes was born on January 14, 2003. She had the most contagious laugh, a smile so big and beautiful you could see it from any distance, and a heart so big and selfless she would sit there and listen to you cry and talk for hours about what you have going on in your life REGARDLESS of how much pain she was in from the hell she had been through at home and at school. She was so selfless.
Alexia was fostered in, she would often talk about the neglect that she received from the both of them. EVERY child in the foster system NEEDS love. They need to know they have a purpose. They need to feel safe and secure in their own home. August 3rd of 2021 when she decided to buy an unlicensed gun from an unknown individual, drive to the middle of nowhere, and did what she thought she had to do to have peace. All she wanted was love and reassurance from the family who was supposed to protect her. The adoptive parents refused to have any service for Alexia -funeral, memorial-and when we her close friends decided we would have our own service for her, she advised people not to come because those are “not their wishes” to celebrate Alexia’s life, and she contacted police because of the celebration of life that was thrown.
We, along with the whole town who will back up right behind us, believe that her adoptive mother should be held accountable. What she did is against the law (under section 12-34.5(a)(1)) and it is inhumane. All 18 years of neglect that was provided to Alexia has caused a beautiful, young hearted girl to take her own life instead of pursuing a career she loved. Please hear us. Please hear Alexia’s story. Please help us get our girl justice!
